Ha! C'mon now - give the rookie a pat on the back for a new feature AND tell
him to get off his lazy butt and code it himself in the same email? Harsh!
In any case, I would like to openly thank anyone and everyone who's ever worked
on / contributed to VASSAL - especially the poor soul(s) who put together the
Reference Manual. Writing helpfiles has got to be one of the most godawful
boring tasks ever, and this one is excellent.
I hope to be a meaningful contributor for a long time to come.

This is a good suggestion. I'll add a Feature Request for it on
SourceForge, which should ensure that someone of us devs will
implement it (eventually). Doing it would be a pretty localized
change---basically it would amount to adding an option to the Clone
trait and building a dialog to prompt the user for the number of
clones---so it wouldn't require encyclopaedic familiarity with
the rest of the code. Could be a good way for someone unfamiliar
with the codebase to get started (nudge! nudge!).
