You may have lost the preferences file which is stored for windows in "C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\VASSAL\Preferences"
The default name and password may be different from the one you saved it in. It defaults to something like <userrname>'s password Its the password that counts, exit the game not vassal. Go to preferences and set the password then exit , start vassal and load the game it should be ok.
