While most of the VASSAL Help file is as clear as it
can be, the information about Updating saved games is
plain bockmist. It helped me to ruin several hours
worth of a set up (silly me made back ups of the
different module versions in question not the sav
files). Anyway.

The help file says: “To update a saved game, you must
first import the GamePiece information” [and where
would this be?] “from the earlier module version”.

It continues: “Open the earlier version” [of what? The
sav file or the module] “in the VASSAL editor, bring
up this dialog and export the GamePiece information to
a file” [can’t choose a name for the file
unfortunately]. “Then close VASSAL, load up the
current module version in the VASSAL editor, and
import the GamePiece information from the older
version” [say the file whose name I could not
choose?].

Anyway, after trying several permutations I managed to
update a .sav file. Unfortunately afterwards the data
it contained was an exact duplicate of the exported
GamePiece information i.e. nothing to be possibly
loaded a saved game anymore.

What did I do wrong? Would someone please be so kind
to explain the process of updating saved games in
other words than the help file does.

Matthias
