You will need to adjust the amount of memory allocated to Vassal.

This should be one of the options you selected when installing.

After installation, you can still modify the parameters, but it is a
little bit more involved:
1. Select the "Vassal 3.0" application.
2. Right click and choose "Show Package Contents"
3. Double-click on "Contents"
4. Double-click on "Info.plist"
5. Expand the Root > Java > VMOptions items
6. Change the number in the "-Xmx..." item for the memory you want.
6a. The number can either be the absolute number of bytes or
a number followed by "m" to indicate megabytes.
7. Close the editing window and choose Save when prompted.
8. Close the Finder window with Contents.

You are now set to go with the new memory setting.
