obelix, It is usually best to have a stub program, which checks for new
versions and if they exist run their installer, and if they do not, run the
main program exe. However the choice is yours.
You can have a routine that checks for a newer version as a part of your
main exe, if the newer version exists, it shells to the installer and
exits.
The only caveat of using the main EXE program to do the checking, is that it
can not be in memory when it is replaced, so you MUST exit your main program
at some point and allow the installation to proceed from a separate EXE.
Your code could be something as simple as the following.
If CVDate(FileDateTime(Localcopy)) > (FileDateTime(ServerCopy)) Then
copyExe = True
Kill Localcopy
End If
Or a complex check using the GetVersion API, for examples of it in use,
check out the setup1 project in VB
Or you could use a data file containing details to be checked.
