In that case Cyrus,   use VB to read the data in the text file.   You 
can do this either with the open command or by opening the file as a 
recordset using ADO.  Using ADO will require a file rename before you 
open it,  but I would recommend it as you can then do your data 
manipulation with SQL to connect to a text file using ADO use the 
connection string here

You can then write your output to an excel file using the connection 
string for excel on the same URL as I gave earlier.

This method will make your application truly stand alone, without any 
dependency on a particular version of excel.  It will also allow you to 
concentrate on the data without having to worry about file I/O.
