Location: Richmond, VA or McLean, VA (Hybrid – Onsite Required) Interview: Local candidates preferred for face-to-face; video interview exceptions possible Years of Experience required:10+ years’ experience Job Description: We are seeking Senior and Mid-Level Back-End Java Engineers with strong experience in Java and AWS Glue to design, build, and optimize scalable backend data processing systems. This role requires recent Capital One project experience (within the last 5 years) — prior experience with Amazon projects will not be accepted. You will work on high-performance, cloud-based solutions that transform structured and unstructured data, enabling data-driven decision-making at scale. The position involves designing backend services, implementing ETL pipelines, and collaborating across teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance. Key Responsibilities: Design and develop scalable backend systems and ETL workflows using Java, Spring Boot, and AWS Glue. Build and maintain Java-based APIs and microservices for data-intensive applications. Implement data orchestration and messaging workflows using AWS Step Functions, SNS, SQS, Lambda, and S3. Optimize performance and scalability for large-scale data processing. Collaborate with DevOps and Data Engineering teams to integrate CI/CD and automation best practices. Write clean, testable, and maintainable code with proper documentation. Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis to ensure system stability. Participate in design discussions and contribute to technical architecture improvements. Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in backend development with Java. Hands-on expertise with AWS Glue for ETL/data processing. Recent Capital One client experience (within the last 5 years) is mandatory. Strong experience with Spring Boot, API/microservices development, and AWS ecosystem. Solid understanding of distributed systems, data integration, and performance optimization. Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience). Nice to Have: Experience with Spark, ETL frameworks, and data pipelines. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes. Exposure to Agile/Scrum development environments.
