Are you sure that this is not a normal assertion? Debug builds have
all assertions enabled. A triggered assertion does not necessarily
mean that some problem was found, it could be a also a false positive.

Error code 998 means "invalid memory access" which is quite generic.
Make sure to start the debug build in a debugger and get the call
trace.
