On FC12, Kernel 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686
VirtualBox-3.1-3.1.4_57640_fedora12-1.i686
I created a vmdk for 185GB USB HD.
I created and configured a new machine "winxp"
with the vmdk I created earlier as the HD.
I inserted the windows CD in the drive.
I started the machine. I pressed F12 so
I could choose the medium to boot from.
I selected c (the CDROM).
I get
Fatal: Could read from the boot medium. System Halted.
Just to be sure the cdrom device was readable:
$ ls -l /dev/sr0
brw-rw-rw-+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 2010-03-11 09:21 /dev/sr0
$ ls -l /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-03-11 09:21 /dev/cdrom -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-03-11 09:21 /dev/dvd -> sr0
The media is a Microsoft windows XP installation CD.
I can boot it up by itself on the real HW without problems.
Let me know if you need more info.
Thanx for your help.
