I remember about a decade ago that OS/2 fans touted the ability of the
operating system to assign a seemingly unlimited number of IP
addresses  to a single NIC card.

I never understood if that was a feature of the TCP/IP stack or if it
required some lower-level code as well...

I believe Unix and BSD systems allow this too although I´m not sure if
this is possible in XP/Vista/7 ...
