Try the procedure I have outlined in my DataBook for Linux Administrators:

Failing and Removing a Device From a RAID 1 Array in Linux

This procedure can be used to simulate the failure of one RAID 1 device. It can be used to deal with RAID 5 as well.

Hi,

I'd like to test Soft RAID solutions on Linux and FreeBSD. I'm aware
that you can't unplug a disk from a running VM; so what would you do
to simulate a disk failure?

Besides, I've been trying to disable the SATA to IDE emulation... the
User Manual is not very clear about it.

Thanks in advance.
