That's currently not possible. Resizing virtual hard disks will be
possible with the next major release. So the only way to clone to
a smaller hard disk is to do this from within the guest, that is
create a new virtual hard disk, attach it as additional hard disk
to the guest and copy all files from one medium to the other.
You could use an Ubuntu LiveCD to ensure that no files are locked
by the operating system.
