I've been using VirtualBox 3.2.6, under Mac OS X.6.5, until yesterday
with no major problems except that no USB thumb drive would get
recognized. Thinking that maybe using version 4.0 would make this
problem go away, I installed it after quitting the earlier version.

After the install, which seemed to go without a hitch, I started the
relevant VM (of eComStation 1.2r) and tried right away to install the
newer Guest Additions, as the notes at the Download site suggest. As
soon as I clicked on the 'Install Guest Additions' item under Devices,
the VM window disappeared (crashed), while the VBox 4.0 app window was
still fine.

Thinking that maybe the Extension Pak was required, I installed it, then
tried to start the VM once more. VBox informed me that it failed to
start the VM because it couldn't find the file '~/temp/ecs12.hdd'.
Fortunately, Time Machine came to my rescue and I replaced the missing
file with the most recent one archived.

This time I started the VM, did some trivial things (desktop font
changes), and shut it down properly. It all behaved as expected, except
that when I went to check on the file '~/temp/ecs12.hdd', it again
wasn't there, and on trying to start it the same 'failed to start
Virtual Machine' message appeared.

I can get the archived VM file back again from Time Machine, but why is
VBox deleting the hdd file?

All help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
