for me, accessibility is a complete and total failure. I use speech recognition. Nothing is speakable. I try to run speech recognition within a virtual machine, audio is garbled both through the virtual sound card and USB interfaces. and yes, I filed a bug report which vanished without a trace. Requesting accessibility add-ons for different interface plugs is barking up the wrong tree. for superior accessibility features. Speech recognition, text-to-speech, and visual interfaces have different ways of operating to minimize cognitive and physical stress on the body. What we need, more than a hack on top of QT, is a low-level API we can use for our own interface manager. This API would give us access to every action every button or menu item invokes. If you think about it a little bit, GUIs are inherently inefficient representing what should be parameters to a single action as lots of little graphical elements (checkboxes, dropbox etc.) With a single API, both text-to-speech and speech recognition users could have a much nicer interface than the GUI. The chances of this happening are fairly low since, people who need the code, can't write it because of the disability. At least, that's the situation in my case and a whole bunch of others that I can think of. But what's potentially more needed is cross domain accessibility. Whatever you run on the host for accessibility tool, in my case NaturallySpeaking, you should be able to drive what ever operating system exists on the guest. It's an interesting problem. it's one that can be solved and for not a lot of money ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Offer-- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE (a $49 USD value)!
