I recall reading that article a while back. I have an I7 950,
hyperthreading disabled, and I find that VBox, if I'm CPU bound will
use an entire CPU. However it's rare that I'm doing anything
completely CPU bound within a VM. So I think in the end, it's going
to depend a lot on your workload along with resources on your Host.
For example, if you have RAID, you'll get far better IOPS than if you
only had a single HDD. Yes, an extreme example but I'm just trying to
make a point. :)
