Hi Robert,

What I'm going to suggest you do is save your VM and uninstall VBox.
Next, go through the entire process as if you were The Student.  :)

As you get stuck, ping us.  

As an instructor, I'm sure you can appreciate what I'm trying to do.
Furthermore, I think it's imperative that you do it yourself because
you know one or more students are going to have a problem.  If you
have those problems, you'll know how to quickly resolve them so you
can get on with teaching your coarse.
