Hello,

I am using vbox-4.0.6 with additions and the oracle extension packages.
My host is linux gentoo, and the Windows 7 guest can see all usb devices
attached to the host. The problem here is that the guest is trying to
install drivers and it is not able to. Looking at the troubleshoot
report on the guest system, it says there is a problem with the driver
and that Windows7 tried to reinstall the driver but the problem
continued and Windows7 then says that there is a problem with some PnP
devices.

I am wondering why I do not see the option for USB 2.0 when I look at
the USB interface in the VirtualBox Manager on the host. This
information is obtained from here:

http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch03.html#settings-usb

"In the Settings dialog, you can first configure whether USB is
available in the guest at all, and in addition also optionally enable
the USB 2.0 (EHCI) controller for the guest. "

It all almost works but this step on the Windows7 guest side that
requires the installation of usb drivers.

One more thing, I had to follow the info here

 http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch12.html#usb_linux

for adding the usb group to my non-root account before I could get the
guest correctly identifying the USB devices.

Any inputs appreciated.

Thanks,
