The auto-update notifier has some delay by intension.

For Aero in Windows guests, a WDDM driver is required. Such an experimental
driver will be available with the upcoming version 4.1 but it will still
have several glitches.

VBox 4.0.10 was released yesterday and there was absolutely no hint that
we would ship a WDDM driver with it.

Furthermore, apart from the Aero effects, Windows 7 should run fine in
VirtualBox 4.0.10. And even if we will ship a WDDM driver for Windows,
3D effects in the guest are disabled by default in the VM settings for
a good reason: The interface 3D effect is very "heavyweight" and therefore
may contain bugs where a malicious guest driver can do some harm with
the 3D drivers on the host. This is clearly mentioned in the user manual.

Kind regards,

Frank
