I'm trying for the first time to install Windows 7 64-bit as a virtualbox guest OS on an Ubuntu 10.10 host. 'uname -a' gives Linux augustine 2.6.35-30-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 11 20:01:08 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm using the stock 3.2.8-1 virtualbox that comes with my Ubuntu release: * virtualbox-guest-additions * virtualbox-ose * virtualbox-ose-dkms * virtualbox-ose-guest-utils * virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 * virtualbox-ose-qt I have a Dell workstation that came with Windows 7, and before installing Linux on it I created a repair disk (two, actually) and made a backup image of the Win7 install, both to DVD and to a hard drive. What happens is that I create a virtual machine for Win 7 64-bit, I allocate RAM & video RAM (up to 2048M and and 32M respectively, so far), and the vm boots from the repair disk as far as the blue splash screen with the magical plants in the lower right-hand corner; a little circular time-marker spins next to the mouse cursor for about 10 seconds; after 1 minute 45 seconds, an error popup appears with the message Error 0x400110020000102 and an 'OK' button. I click the button, and the boot sequence restarts. Like I say, I made two repair disks when Windows was still on the machine, and the same happens with each one. I'm pretty much a total Windows 7 newbie, so maybe I needed something other than repair disks; I also burned the system image to DVDs as well as to a hard drive, but I can't even boot from these in the VM. Any ideas? Am I missing some obvious package or step?
