I tried testing freedos my vm on virtualbox by using the redirect symbol > I
thought if I could redirect a file ending with a null character(which my
synthesizer needs) or carriage return I could see if the file was getting to my
synthesizer.

I had done similar tests with my macs terminal application. I tried the two
following commands with no luck

Type nulltest > aux1
echo nulltest > aux1

But when I typed

ctty aux

Which I had seen on a freedos webpage my synthesizer spoke in virtualbox in my
vm freedos for the first time

All it said was some xxx's

And my computer hangs

I did further tests, like I wrote

Type nulltest > aux

Doubletalk(my synthesizer) said a bunch of xxx's

When I ran the mode command first

mode com1: 9600,n,8,1
And then repeated the type command

Type nulltest > aux

Doubletalk said contents of nulltest file, which was some plain text lines each
ending with a null character, which I created in text edit. A text editor on my
mac.

But when I reran test.com

The test comes back that my doubletalk isn't working properly?

I said all this because atleast I know my USB2serial adaptor can work with
freedos running in virtualbox

But I really want to be able to use some of the dos utilities that I have in my
vm

For instance I can play back music created for the doubletalk musical
synthesizer. And I just got the developer tools and even thought of getting
qbasic to fool around with programming my synthesizer.

But I don't know why the test program isn't working

Any help?
