I have just upgraded from VirtualBox 3.2 to version 4.1 on an xubuntu
11.04 host system.

Everything has gone reasonably smoothly except that I have lost the
VirtualBox menubar at the top of the guest OS window. So, in
particular, how can I upgrade the guest additions to the correct version?

I'm wondering if this is because virtualbox thinks it's running on an
Ubuntu (as opposed to xubuntu) Unity desktop and thus the menubar has
gone to a non-existent Unity settings menu somewhere.

Whatever has gone wrong, how do I get my menus back?
