Great point, this is exactly what I do. Remote storage of critical
information and run your Microshit applications in a VM. If it gets
corrupted, it can easily be restored without compromising the desktop. I
could care less about most malware, since I am running in a VM. This allows
me to hack my Microshit OS for maximum speed, unlike most out-of-the-box
Microshit stuff.
