John,
I use Virtual box in most of my classes. All of the students are running
windows 2008 server with no problems. I never use those tools from
Microsoft, they were not necessary. The requirements are pretty straight
forward and the HAV tool is a waste and you never know what kind of other
information they are collecting about your machine. My studenst use both XP
and 7 for the host OS and I have never had any problems. I run guest
machines for windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP and 7, along with various Linux
types, BSD, Solaris, DOS, OS2 and React OS. Never had problems on any of
the student's machines or mine. Good luck.
