Any chance you have a web filter/proxy for accessing the web?  For us,
domain joinned windows hosts pass through the filter fine.  VM guests are
sometimes prompted for credentials and other times not.  Its a bit hit or
miss.  It doesn't account for the version issues unless the filter was
added/changed recently.
