I'm testing my new 10Mbit Fiber optic (FTTH) connection and I thought
downloading a somewhat large package like Virtualbox would be a good
indication of performance.

It turns out that VBox downloads from Edgesuite.net seem to be throttled to
about 1.5 Mbit per http session.

I'd like to know if the one doing the throttling is my ISP, the upstream
provider, or if this a setting of the edgesuite.net servers.

Of course, if I start any torrent download, I can saturate the 10 Mbit, but
I'm curious anyway what causes the Virtualbox downloads to come down at 1.5
Mbit and not more...

Apache OpenOffice from a US based Sourceforge.net mirror downloads at
2.5Mbit,
and an Ubuntu ISO image frm the local mirror downloads at 7.2 Mbit
http://ftp.ccc.uba.ar/pub/linux/ubuntu-cd/12.04/

FWIW

So, to keep this on topic, the question would be: are Vbox downloads from
EdgeSuite bandwidth-throttled at 1-2Mbit per http session?
