You may/should be able to recover by manually editing/repair of the VM
~.vbox settings file.

Before editing any ~.vbox files, you must first close all VMs, and
exit the VirtualBox UI so that no VirtualBox programs are running.
(Check with TaskManager or top that no instances of VirtualBox or
VBoxSVC are running.)

Take backups/copies of any file before editing it.

Navigate to ~\VirtualBox VMs\(VM Name) and examine (VM Name).vbox.
Comparing it to (VM Name).vbox-prev may show differences that give a
hint as to what edits are needed.

If your VM has snapshots, then you can learn what a good ~.vbox file
should look like by creating a new empty/dummy VM and create snapshots
for that new VM and then examine its ~.vbox file.

If you are not sure what to edit, then please pastebin your (VM
Name).vbox file, your ~\.VirtualBox\VirtualBox.xml file and perhaps we
can advise on what edits might fix it.
