Launch Virtualbox,

Press the "configuration" button.

Click on "Storage" on the left side panel.
You get two round buttons next to the name on the IDE controller, one
is "add a cd drive" the other is "add a hard drive".

That´s all there is to it.
No mistery. It just works.

If it isn´t working for you then you are doing something wrong.
