Well, if the guest additions are installed the easiest change you can spot
is that moving the mouse cursor into the window makes the cursor switch
from host to guest window seamlessly, and you no longer get the dialog
about switching pointer focues from host to guest.
Another indication (on windows guests) is that the additions get its own
icons in the systray.
On Linux guests, it depends on your installed window manager...
