there is no recent regression with shared folders nor with mounting network shares to a guest known. We might help you if you are more specific what you did and what did not work. Note: For having shared folders work, the VirtualBox Guest Additions must be installed and the Guest Additions kernel modules must fit to the guest Linux kernel.
