Hi,
Actually I forgot which was it. Since your issue made me curious, just now
I tried to simulate your issue by migrating one of my VMware Player guests,
it is an Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 (32-bit) guest machine.
These were the steps I made:
*1.) Convert all the .vmdk images to .vdi image.* Probably not a mandatory
step since VirtualBox also supports .vmdk image, but compacting virtual
disk in VirtualBox is only supported for .vdi type, please CMIIW. I used
the command "VBoxManage clonehd disk1.vmdk disk1.vdi --format VDI" to
accomplish this step.
*2.) Create a new guest in VirtualBox.* Put the correct OS type, version,
and architecture that is the same as in VMware Player.
*3.) Attach the disk to the same controller type as the VMware Player.* At
first I put the disks to SATA controller, since I prefer SATA to IDE for
VirtualBox, and apparently the default disk controller for Oracle
Enterprise Linux in VirtualBox is also SATA. But attaching the disks to
SATA gave me a kernel panic, not exactly the same as yours but quite
similar. After changing the disk controller to IDE and put each disk IDE
sequence the same as in VMware Player did the trick. If the sequence is not
the same, it failed to find the disks.
*4.) Run the VirtualBox VM image on VirtualBox.* Finish.
The third step is the crucial part. Enabling/disabling the I/O APIC option
did not work. :)
Hope it works for you too.
