I remember installing it two years ago to see what it was like, on VBox,
when I wrote this story

But I never got as far as to install the VBox guest additions or anything
like that.

I really liked what I saw back then, however. You only need to get familiar
with "pacman".

For instance it had (has) a good selection of Java (OpenJDK) related
packages... which is one of my areas of interest, and even better, very
well written documentation and wikis...

I plan to retrofit my ancient Transmeta Crusoe based Gateway GCTP touchpad
appliances*** with Archlinux... sooner or later. :)

Like you say, it´s a good distro to start with the bare minimum, and start
adding packages on top (as long as you don´t mind using the command line),
instead of doing a full install of a mainstream distro and having to
cherry-pick which packages to remove to make it small :)
