this problem is pretty complex. I'm not sure of what is done. first in stack langage, top is often understood as more "recent" (like a stack of dishes).
In the VirtualBox GUI, the snapshots are listed top to botom, the bottom one being the more recent. Then snapshots are complex beasts. If you think snapshot like file system ones (btrfs...) any snapshot have only one father and one son (probably, I'm not BTRFS specialist), but in VirtualBox any snapshot can live it's own life. You can have a common initial snapshot (base) and them build a system (I use it for games) say with Warcraft. You can then make a snapshot of the warcraft install, then run the base sbapshot and install Doom. so you end with a tree with several branches. I'm pretty sure it's not possible at all to merge all these branches safely. I wonder then what mean "delete" (restore runs the snapshot as "present state") notice that the link https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=29269 says that it's not possible to branch snapshot what is obviously wrong. I did and it works.
