Thanks, Frank,
The downloaded upgrade .exe file, VirtualBox-4.2.4-81684-Win.exe, is
on the local hard drive in the user's downloads subdirectory. The
user account is an administrator. The message box asking for the
location of VirtualBox-4.1.18-r78361-MultiArch_amd64.msi is followed
by a second message box stating that "The older version of Oracle VM
VirtualBox 4.2.4 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support
group."--with a Finish button. I have no prior version of 4.2.4
installed. Moreover, prior updates were run from the same directory.
I have had to restore the registry several times (Who has not, with
Windows 7 64 bit?), so I suppose it could be that the installer has an
incorrect notion of the prior version to remove. Where would that
information be in the registry, if that is the problem?
