Hi Allen,

If you host OS has networking enabled and Internet connectivity, then
your guest OS
also has connectivity.

If you load IE (or Firefox) and type any URL what happens? Can you
ping an internet host from the command line (again, from XP)?  Say
173.194.42.17 (one of Google´s many hosts).

Also, did you install the Guest Additions?
