Try to install the guest additions... although I´m not sure what would happen if you later attempt to boot from the external drive on another machine where the OS is not running virtualized... that´s a good question for the devs.... do the guests additions detect it´s not running virtualized and gracefully exit? By the way, if you got it working, it might be a good opportunity to update that tutorial.... with just what you have written to the list, plus my updated screenshots plus an extra screenshots more, you could upload an updated turorial that might benefit someone else. That is, if you have a blog to some other site to upload such material, and the desire to do it, of course. If not, that´s ok, this thread will get archived on the mailing list for future reference..
