I posted this in the virtual-box forums, but no response in 2 days. Hoping I
get more ideas here. Thanks!

VirtualBox version: 4.2.10 r84104 win.amd64
Host: Win7x64 SP1
Guest: Fedora 17 (no GUI)

On boot-up, I get a warning pop-up that "Some audio devices (PCM_in, PCM_mic)
could not be opened. Guest applications generating audio output or depending on
audio input may hang. Make sure your host audio device is working properly.
Check the logfile for error messages of the audio subsystem"

Sure enough, any audio playback program (like mpg123) hangs on the guest. And
from the logfile:

00:00:00.810293 AC97: WARNING: Unable to open PCM IN!
00:00:00.810304 AC97: WARNING: Unable to open PCM MC!
00:00:00.810321 VM: Raising runtime error 'HostAudioNotResponding' (fFlags=0x0)
00:00:00.810332 Console: VM runtime error: fatal=false,
errorID=HostAudioNotResponding message="Some audio devices (PCM_in, PCM_mic)
could not be opened. Guest applications generating audio output or depending on
audio input may hang. Make sure your host audio device is working properly.
Check the logfile for error messages of the audio subsystem"

My host machine doesn't have a microphone and line-in attached to the jacks,
but that's fine with me – I don't want to record stuff on this machine. I've
tried the following:
[*] Searched the VBox manual, FAQ, these fora and Google. No useful answers
there.
[*] Disabled the microphone device on the host. Didn't help.
