Hi,

it seems I have issues with clock on VBox appliances. I think the
basic idea is to install guest extensions and enjoy a precise time,
but this does not work well, I see differences of 1000ms and even
more.

When using NTP, things get worse, because guest extensions and NTPset
time alternatingly, causing "jumping time".

I tried to disable guest extensions time setting, but then
suspend/resume fails to detect the needed clock adjustment and NTP
stops clock setting, because the time is such much off that it assumes
an error.

Guests are Debian 7. Hosts are Debian 7 or Windows 7. On at least
Windows 7 as host I have the additional problem, that the local clock
runs badly, although I configured internet time with
"time.windows.com", but I have time differences exceeding a whole
second, often multiple seconds. This is bad enough, but I hope using
VBox I could "abstract" from the bad host OS and have a correct time
nevertheless :-)

I searched the web, but only found that guest extensions are supposed
to work. Do they work as precisely as NTP (very few milliseconds
difference) or do I simply expect too much? Are there best practices
to deal with the issue? I think a working clock is a standard thing,
but faced issues on multiple guest and hosts, so I hope someone could
please enlighten me.

Regards,
Steffen
