I know, and that's the beauty of it: it's faking hard disks, and even its sizes can be controlled at a whim: with "modifyhd --resize" the hard disk is now suddenly bigger. This is much more complicated with real hard disks :) > In other words, think what could happen if you take a real hard drive, with > data on it, reduce the number of platters, or heads, or sectors, and then > re-assemble it. Sure, the admin can shoot her/himself in the foot, but that's true for other options too. Not every filesystem may react the same when the filesystem is suddenly bigger. The OS might not even boot if the VirtualBox admin uses "modifyvm --memory 8" or "modifyvm --nictype ..." > If you change the size of a virtual hard drive stored into a VDI image > file, you are altering the physical hard drive size (as seen from the guest > OS)...Not as simple as it might seem. I know all that, but again: 1) "growing" is supported 2) the option is called "--resize" (which is kinda misleading until one looks up the documentation) and 3) the OS has to deal with other machine alterations anyway (see above). So, I don't see the technical reasoning here. Well, besides "it's quite an effort, nobody sent patches and nobody is asking for it" :-) Christian. -- BOFH excuse #51: Cosmic ray particles crashed through the hard disk platter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BPM Camp - Free Virtual Workshop May 6th at 10am PDT/1PM EDT Develop your own process in accordance with the BPMN 2 standard Learn Process modeling best practices with Bonita BPM through live exercises http://www.bonitasoft.com/be-part-of-it/events/bpm-camp-virtual- event?utm_ source=Sourceforge_BPM_Camp_5_6_15&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=VA_SF _______________________________________________ VBox-users-community mailing list VBox-users-community@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/vbox-users-community _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe: mailto:vbox-users-community-requ...@lists.sourceforge.net?subject=unsubscribe
