We never did a major release every 6-8 months.

  4.0: 12/2010
  4.1: 07/2011 (8 months)
  4.2: 09/2012 (14 months)
  4.3: 10/2013 (13 months)
  5.0: 07/2015 (21 months)

It would be much easier if we could drop supporting of older major releases
quickly after a new major release but that's not possible. Support of older
major releases takes a _lot_ of time.

And even if it took 21 months for 5.0 after 4.3 was released that does not
mean that there is no innovation. The changes during the 4.3.x releases
cycle were _not_ only code shuffling and minor bug fixes...
