Further testing has revealed that blaming the issue on the update may 
have been wrong, and the timing perhaps coincidental. After downgrading 
to 5.0.10 on the Windows 7 host, as well as the guest additions, the 
performance of that CentOS 7 VM is still bad to the point that it is 
unusable. Another similarly configured CentOS 7 VM does not exhibit the 
same problems, and a CentOS 6.7 VM is also fine. I suppose it is 
possible that the guest additions upgrade caused some change in the VM 
that was not reversed by the downgrade. I'm reluctant to upgrade the 
other VMs to test that theory. I'll try a fresh install to test on.
