Please, can you file a separate bug for the networking problem. Please, include the ip configuration of the guest: ifconfig -a and netstat -rn In the ticket you filed for the video issues I can see that you have two adapters, NAT and host-only. Which one you app uses (the one you have to disable to make it fail)?
