Hi,

currently, I'm on VirtualBox 5.1.26, but I watched this with some
earlier versions too (at least with 5.1.24).

Host is Kubuntu 17.04 64 bit, guest is Kubuntu 16.04 64 bit.

Host processor is Intel Core i7-7700K (4 cores, 8 Hyper Threads).

Against the recommendation, I'm using 8 CPUs in the VM. I'm doing a lot
of parallel compilation and testing. I found, that using 8 gives me more
performance than the recommended 4. The host does little more than
running this single VM.

Usually I see the total processor load in VM and host at par.

Sometimes on extreme load on the VM, it happens, that the VM keeps being
loaded near 100%, but the host load drops to 30% or 24%. This gives me
the impression, that just 2 or 4 hyper threads are being used by the VM.

Once run into this, the VM does not recover from it. I have to reboot
the VM.

Any idea, how to get around this without a reboot?

Regards
Ingo
