I would say to be strict and short as possible, but provide a full explanation as a tooltip. The people that want short control names will get them if they disable speaking of tooltips in their screen reader settings, while those who want more info will have tooltips enabled. Hope that makes sense. I suggest we take this discussion off the speakup list. While the owner of that list has said in the past that anything goes as long as it is gnu/linux related in some way, the speakup list is primarily meant for discussing the speakup screen reader, and the text console. While virtualbox does have the vboxmanage text component, we're discussing the GUI component here. I only sent a cc of the initial post on this thread to the speakup list, since I knew some people there use virtualbox, and would be interested as I stated previously. I'm going to provide some links below. <http://www.nvda-project.org> This is the main home page for the windows nvda screen reader. It is free as in free software, and free of cost. <https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/Connect> This is a list of resources for connecting with users and developers of nvda. <https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/orca-list> This is a list for users of the orca screen reader for gnu/linux. I assume developers are there as well, but am not positive on that. <http://groups.google.com/group/talkingapple> This is one of the mac users lists I know of. There may be others as well that I'm not aware of. There may be users of virtualbox on that list. I'm not subscribed to any of these lists, so am unable to post there.
