You have to manually uninstall the old version on Solaris first before
installing the new version.

Subject: [VBox-users] Install VB on Solaris (openindiana) Needs Unique Instance

Trying to update an old 5.2.?? running on Openindiana I get a message
Very early in the install process

 pkgadd -s ./VB-6.1.2/VirtualBox-6.1.2-SunOS-amd64-r135662.pkg

[...]

The following packages are available:
  1  SUNWvbox     Oracle VM VirtualBox
                  (i386) 6.1.2,REV=2020.01.13.12.19.135662

Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to process
all packages). (default: all) [?,??,q]:

Processing package instance <SUNWvbox> from
</opt/VB-6.1.2/VirtualBox-6.1.2-SunOS-amd64-r135662.pkg>

Oracle VM VirtualBox(i386) 6.1.2,REV=2020.01.13.12.19.135662

  Note:
  What does this msg want me to do? ... I have an old (5.2) instance
  installed that and am tryingto replace it... something here will not
  let me

** Emphasis added (hp):
,----
| Current administration requires that a unique instance of the
| <SUNWvbox> package be created. However, the maximum number of
| instances of the package which may be supported at one time on the
| same system has already been met.
|
| No changes were made to the system.
