I moved my Linux installation to a new hard disk and the VBoxGuestAdditions.iso was left on the old hard drive. Copying it across to /usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso has fixed the error message. So the file *should* be there, that's where installing it puts it.
