In my case I don't think the modules are recompiled; they have a May 24th date stamp, which is when I updated the Guest Additions. Also the compilation takes a very long time, but the pause in the boot process is 20 seconds, no longer than for some of the other steps. The only difference from the way things worked with the previous version of VBox is the appearance of the compile message.
