I am running Devuan Linux 3.0 on a Windows10 host. I recently updated
VirtualBox to version 6.1.22 and have also corrected a previous mistake by
upgrading the Guest Additions.
When Linux kernel 5.10 is booted, the guest machine log file includes the
following entry, which is followed by a pause of about 20 seconds.
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: Starting.
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: Building the
VirtualBox Guest Additions kernel
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: modules. This may take a while.
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: To build modules
for
other installed kernels, run
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd
quicksetup <version>
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: or
Sun Oct 24 09:52:05 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: /sbin/rcvboxadd
quicksetup all
Sun Oct 24 09:52:30 2021: VirtualBox Guest Additions: Running kernel
modules will not be replaced until
Sun Oct 24 09:52:30 2021: the system is restarted
The modules are NOT recompiled, as that process would take much longer,
and the time stamps of the modules in /lib/modules are unchanged. Their
date stamps indicate the time Guest Additions was reinstalled.
This problem is not serious as the system works perfectly well, but the
message is incorrect and should not be triggered when Guest Additions are
started in the boot process.
This problem first occurred with my upgrade to VirtualBox 6.1 over a year
ago, and I reported it then.
