I found how to fix it, for the moment anyway, enable only USB 1.1 and
USB 2.  Presumably my Windows XP doesn't have USB 3 drivers. Can XP
ever have USB 3?  If not then it's probably worth a quick FAQ
somewhere if there isn't already.
