I have reported a problem several times about a Devuan Linux virtual
machine recompiling kernel modules which already exist. I use a Windows 10
host and am currently running VirtualBox 6.1.28; the guest machine is
Devuan running Linux kernel 5.10.0-14
Every time the virtual machine is booted the system reports that kernel
modules, specifically Guest Additions, are being recompiled, even though
they still exist with their original time stamps.
It has just occurred to me that the problem may be Debian specific, and
probably started when I switched to using Devuan. The essential difference
here is that Devuan remained with init.d and does not use Systemd. Before
I research the problem in more detail, I would appreciate any comments
people might have. I note that the Virtual Box scripts do have some
specific features relating to Debian, and I now suspect that may be the
cause of my problem.
