All,
I have had a frustrating problem with my Virtualbox guest since the 5.17
kernel with virtualbox only drawing part of the window. The text grub boot
menu doesn't show the Press 'e' to edit line at the bottom and the right side
is cut off. In graphic mode (X with Fluxbox) only 1024x768 is shown for a
video-mode of 1440x864: See screenshot at:
https://paste.opensuse.org/36326054
(link good until 8/30/22)
This started sometime with the 5.17 kernel and 6.34 and it continues with
the 5.18 kernel and 6.36. The mouse can move over the entire window, but
nothing is drawn outside the 1024x768 area.
See earlier thread from 3/30/22:
[VBox-users] Linux 5.17 (host & guest) Guest Additions Fail To Build,
Artifacts on Remote Desktop
I access the headless guest with rdesktop. Something changed or broke that
prevents the actual window from being drawn full size. The desktop size is set
after the VM is started with:
VBoxManage controlvm "arch_1_64" setvideomodehint 1440 864 32
All modules build and install fine, so I'm at a loss as to what broke and
what do I need to do to fix it?
Occurs with Linux 5.19 kernel as well. Interestingly, Win7 guests start with
the proper full screen shown, and will run for 5-10 minutes without issue, but
then the rdesktop session closes and when restarted, the full window size is
there, but only 1024x768 of the desktop is shown.
Vbox guests are unusable via rdesktop at this point. This is with host and
guest running 6.1.36.
